A New Denisovan Fossil Discovered on Tibetan Plateau

New archaeological evidence now shows that When the climate got tough, the Denisovans got tougher. The enigmatic ancient humans hunted birds, rodents, and even hyenas, allowing them to flourish on the Tibetan plateau for more than 200,000 years. Indeed, the Mysterious Denisovans may have overlapped with modern humans in the high elevation environment. Incredibly, Bones discovered with a 40,000 year-old Denisovan rib bone in a cave high on the Plateau reveal that our big-boned relatives hunted goats, yaks, snow leopards, eagles and other birds. Some researchers prefer to use the term "Dragon Man" rather than Denisovan to refer to this group, an important topic which will be discussed at the end of the video.

The perhaps 40 kya rib bone was found in the same cave as the 160 kya mandible of 1980, the Baishiya Karst Cave in Xiahe county on the Tibetan Plateau. Both fossils are classified as Denisovan acc to the protein analysis and the sedimentary DNA in the environment of the bones (that's an indirect method). The Xiahe-Denisova group apparently forms an own clade with the Xujiayao fossils (the _Julurens_ / "big heads", with a cranium capacity of ~1, 800 cc), whereas _Homo longi, _ the Dragon People, might only include the Harbin, Dali, Maba, Jinniushan, and Hualongdong fossils.

It's wonderful to be living in a time where we have so many scientific advances with which to study ancient beings & DNA traces.

I am glad that work on discovered 160, 000 year old remains can lend links to modern day humans. Beautiful footage. Nice place to relax for a month.

There simply MUST be more Denisovan fossil material out. Getting reliable DNA from a complete cranium like Dragon Man plus other long bones, pelvis, shoulders, etc, will go a long way to establishing morphology

The fact that creamation may have occurred regularly, if proven to be true, suggests to me that they were far more developed and cultured than we currently give them credit for.

The jade bracelet comes to mind.

“Genetic communication”. That’s a useful turn of phrase 😂

very well done video. thank you for compiling the information. denisovans are interesting! the dates that they were making beads and jewelry, they seem to be very advanced for 100, 000ya. i wish we knew so much more about them. hopefully more discoveries are coming.

The part where you zoom the map in and back out and back in again was highly compelling 😅

Their teeth are mostly perfect. We started losing teeth when sugar was introduced into our diet.

We Norwegians can handle freaky cold weather too.

Talk about selective use of evidence to fit a theory that’s mathematically impossible.

Maybe they are just called Doris or Fred or Ali or whatever. They are us, we are they! ❤😮😊

The interbreeding of Denisovan, Neanderthals and Saps would have been the norm for all hominids leading to the "extinction" of the originals of all breeds as even today the genes of all hominids are a part of our genetuc heritage

I have followed your videos for a long time, but recently they're not being fed to me by the YouTube algorithm.
I checked my subscriber status and once again hit the button so that I'll get all of your notifications. We'll see how that works out.

Looks like the Denisovans lived or used caves on the Tibetan plateau. Perhaps a survey of caves on the plateau or any caves intermediate the Karst Cave and the Denisova Cave would find more remains. Highly Compelling is a cool show about archaeological evidence (and perhaps conjecture a little bit) but one thing their lectures have taught me is that we do not have very many bones of these early humans. Tam Ngu Hao 2 seems interesting. Is it in current mainland China?

I assume there were at least two Denisovan races or genetic researchers have gotten things wrong. The Homo Sapiens with up to 7% Denisovan admixture are in Australasia (Oceana?). I have not heard that any of them have a high altitude gene.

Does anyone else wonder that they have trouble extracting DNA from well preserved fossils, but Seem to easily find it in the soil?

Perhaps one day a Denisovian body will be found defrosting in the Siberian permafrost and it will have upwards pointed ears.

The bottom bone has only 14 teeth, where did the other two teeth go? Is that scull of a Denisovan younger than 25 ?
