UNE student researchers and their faculty mentors work on an interdisciplinary research project focused on combating drug-resistant bacteria.

In their initial collaboration, the team found that seaweed contains compounds that can kill drug-resistant bacteria. Since then, Dr. Ursula Röse's lab is studying how to manipulate the production of those compounds. Dr. Amy Deveau's lab is trying to make the compounds work better, and Dr. Kristin Burkholder's lab is exploring how these compounds could make existing antibiotics work better.
