Both the LaCie Rugged BOSS and the GNARBOX 2.0 are stupid expensive and almost impossible to find. This inexpensive device does the job and much more for $60. And you are not locked into any internal storage capacity as you provide the external storage. The only thing you give up is the weather proofing and "ruggedness".

Great explanation video! This is sold now as NewQ Filehub AC750 Travel Hub. I Tried this hub recently with GoPro SD cards. The issue for me (besides the painfully slow transfers) was the external drive used is limited due to the USB -A spec. At least on this unit it specd at 1amp output for that port. So no SSD I could find could be used which limits me to large thumb drives. I had some limited success with it but found this solution before trying different combos with the NewQ so back it went to Amazon. My solution is much more expensive but seems to hold more promise in my application and comfort zone. I purchased the Nexto DI NVS2801-PLUS Nexto Video Storage Doc+ SSD.

This device works great to do a simple sd card backup. It gets complicated when you have many sources to transfer. I travel with a 360 camera and 2 drones. Each uses a micro sd card. Each back using the filehub needs to be renamed before starting another - no problem. If you want to consolidate your files created on the ssd drive to use in a video editing software - that is another story. I found the time it takes to transfer files is a show stopper. One drone file took 40 minutes to transfer from one folder on the ssd drive to the file consolidating the media on the same ssd drive. I looked at this device as a way to use an ipad for video editing while cycle touring. I'll be taking my MacBook instead.

This is what I bought it for. Still was worried about it possibly deleting files while backing up, went to test but I think the device battery was dead. Am charging it now and will start backing up SD cards once dead. Curious just how "slow" it is, though I am quite patient.

Hi Paul! Great video! This could be a life safer to me!! I am curious as will this automatic backup will replace the file of the same name? Cause let’s say if I have a video file named ABC in my hard drive. Then tomorrow I back up another file that happens to be named ABC. What happens then? Thank you!!!

Such overkill. Why not just backup SD cards to your phone with a simple dongle..The iPhone can then double backup over the net to your cloud storage in the background. A complete waste of money.. and over complication... iPhone dongle = 15 - 25 dollars and fits in a small pocket..
