It's inspiring to see the actors union come together and strike to make sure they don't lose their art or their livelihoods to technological advances. It's the kind of thing folks like Sting and Billy Corgan had no interest in worrying about, much less fighting for, 20 years ago when music and the careers of working musicians could have been saved from free streaming. And they still don't.

They're not lobbying congress for regulations or protections. They're not putting on concerts to raise awareness about the need to preserve culture and opportunity for the generations of lost songwriter/performers and recording engineers and producers (real ones, that is) behind them. They just cash out their publishing and say, "Gee this might be bad, you know, in the future."

Ai is a tool or trick, but never can replace true artists... True artists know this, but ai can add perspectives about a song, that can learn us more about the different Constructs of a song .. but it really never ever can replace an unplugged song en sound.. true music always live on..

Is it possible music should not be so democratic? The law of diminishing returns and reduction are going to be rife and we'll plunge into a very milquetoast era of art. AI is a toy, not a tool. Unfortunately in a clown world full of adult age children, we'll end up having to deal with this shit for a while .. we really need a Renaissance.

Wise words from Sting. I’m skeptical about the framing of this as “democratization of music production”. Is that like when cryptocurrency “democratized” the financial systems? Just because AI creates a formulaic song for you doesn’t mean that you become more of a musician. And since your song will be lost in a deluge of similar songs created by others, you will not be rewarded for it, either.

A machine has no soul or feelings. A good song has these things and more. You're looking for a beat and a hook that's what you'll get. No substance, just hollowed noises.
