Hi, I’m a truck driver. Love what you guys do! See you guys all the time I pass CBP Inspection stations. But one day I accidentally called a female CBP officer a “sir” after asking me if I’m a US citizen. I felt genuinely bad because I’m so used to male officers. She was pretty upset. For a second I thought I was gonna get deported. Anyways.. keep up the good work guys AND GIRLS! And good luck to those who are applying. Hope to see y’all on the road :)

I hope you get this, I just watched my first CBP 'documentary ' on National Geographic today. I have been searching for a way to just send my gratitude and thanks for who they all are and what they do. I have a son who has been a drug addict for, unfortunately, most of his life. He is 40 years old, in and out of prison for possession and selling. It kills me. But I just know how much worse it would be, if we didn't have the agents and officers we do have. THANK YOU ALL. From the bottom of my heart. I'm praying this gets to as many as possible, to let them know that they are appreciated. Blessings

FLETC training is the best in the world. I graduated in February 2003 after my Spanish immersion course in the USDOJ INS. Good times back then. I had always been proficient with firearms....but they made me even better.

Fantastic explanation. Many citizens and visitors are uninformed of who is who...keep up the great work.

Retired Supervisory CBP Officer.
After 13 years army active duty ( 11B 11M) and three years Air Force DoD Police, I tested for Immigration Officer position, (Special Agent, Deportation Officer, Immigration Inspector)

Scored 100 on test plus ten points veterans preference. However, I was 40 and only eligible for I I position because it did not have 6c LEO retirement coverage. Went to academy in 97 and served in Laredo for seven years Grades GS 5-11,
In 2003, Customs Inspectors and Immigration Inspectors moved to DHS CBP as CBP officers.
In 2004 promoted to Supervisor GS-12, on Canadian border and in 2007 promoted to GS-13 and transferred to DC to manage CBP operations overseas. Retired as a GS 1895-14 in 2012.

Excelente job, extensive overtime, ($20k + a year ) when working the border. Final salary was well in excess of $100k.

Thanks for this upload, it’s very educational to have a better understanding of customs. They work very hard.

CBPO = your on pavement all day and always have supervisors and back up near by and have better locations to choose from. BPA =. You work in desolate areas with less supervision in the field and will often be by yourself and will most likely be on the southern border for 5-7 years. Each has pluses and minuses if you like more outdoors type of work BP is probably better if you prefer a more office like environment and inspection of various cargo, etc. OFO is better. Depends on the person if your a hunter you’ll love BP because you will be out in nature tracking people. If you like more analytical work like looking for fraudulent documents a port is a good choice. Not all stations and ports are the same but in my opinion this covers the majority.

you are doing the exact same thing I did to enter the Sheriffs. only difference I think is you need to be 21 to use a handgun. I was 52 as an ACO then turned 57 in recruit class. I am now 60. Have fun in what you do.

If you’re watching this and want to apply listen up! DONT WATCH ANYTHING OR READ ANYTHING ABOUT THE POLYGRAPH. Go into it relaxed on 9 hours of sleep eat normal have normal morning routine and when they give you the chance to talk before getting hooked up be honest about everything and you will pass it. Don’t let the fail bloggers freak you out! Just don’t waste everyone’s time if you’re going to lie about the one time you smoked weed 5 years ago.

I thought the cbp officers worked with the office of field operations (aka OFO) i believe they are the biggest law enforcement agency in the cbp. And they do have a swat division as well i think.
