A Farewell to Galaxy Season! - Backyard Astrophotography of the Needle Galaxy

Well, I think for me now, galaxy season has drawn to a close - that doesn't mean i'm stopping shooting galaxies of course! it just means that the main targets of this particularly galaxy-laden part of the year's night skies is just about over now :)

Again another excellent vid lovely galaxy to see visually and yes the weather has been great, I live in Irish republic, been here 16 years, last year was the worst observing year I've ever experienced, this year has been great so far, my own astrophotography journey has just started, learning a lot, keep Em skies

Great final results of the Needle. You are correct ... I too wonder who is looking back at us from those other galaxies. Maybe we should wave at them! Ha.

Another wonderful image Luke. Love the edge on dust detail. It seems that our clear nights down here are always coinciding with the full moon or at least coinciding with when I'm shooting a galaxy. Similarly to you, I'm going to have to restrict tonight's shoot with only adding Ha to the galaxy due to that giant spotlight the sky. Looking forward to your next vid and target. Keep 'em coming.

I love the needle galaxy I've captured it a couple of times when I've been to star parties the first time was with a modified DSLR & the second time using my QHY8 OSC it's a bit old now but it did the job ok, both times I used my 250PX & when galaxy season starts again I'll have another go from home.

What a treat of a video to watch after a long shift at work Luke :) Love the b-roll, tunes and commentary! and I was very much nodding along and smiling when you were giving your thoughts on galaxies :) indeed there isn't any point stacking bad subs, even though it can be tempting. I'm only stacking about 25% of my subs at the moment, but that may change when I buy the ASI Air Pro come payday and finally join the 21st Century (I have you and Ruz to thank for that purchase idea lol, cheers! :) )

A bit of a wild guess as there are of course loads of objects in Cygnus, but I'll guess at the Cocoon next? AND! as for that 11 hour Needle galaxy, what a project! but wow was it worth it :) Such an image to be proud of! You nailed the processing in my opinion, really natural and you had that nice but subtle velvety brown background, not at all black clipped but still dark. Razer sharp, I mean even the background galaxies looked sharp and they were also a nice surprise to see as the image panned out! The detail in the Needle's edge on dust was a real treat to see. Another fantastic video and image Luke, well done :)
