Watching on my 2012 macbook. Still works perfectly. Upgraded to ssd, and 8GB. Woundn't think of buying or owning anything else.

I got an M1 MacBook Pro back in 2021… right before Apple refreshed the 16” MacBook Pro 😅. It was a fantastic laptop for the duration I had it. The only real issue I had with it was the screen size! Great video btw

as someone who likes to buy a bunch of macs as their teenager hobby, i have the bigger 16" 2021 and the smaller one (14") i agree with your point on how boring these macs are. theres something about intel macs with how exciting they are, especially when comparing them to each other.

After retiring one of my heavily upgraded Mac Pro 5, 1 units from being the main rig last year, I went the Hackintosh route with an AMD Ryzen PC build. Sure, x86-64 Mac support days are numbered, but assuming the worst case scenario of Sonoma being the last x86-64 version of macOS, it'll still very likely see support for at least another 2-3 years. Plus, I dual-boot Windows, and have the option to try Linux (again, for the 7th time). I also have a Lenovo P50 dual-boot Hackintosh, which is very solid.

I was somewhat considering an M2 Mac mini, or M2 15-inch MacBook Air, but the extortionate pricing for RAM and internal storage options, as well as the general lack of internal upgradeability/serviceability were huge dealbreakers. And used M1 Macs I find worthy—spec-wise (i.e. M1 Max Mac Studio)—are still going for far above what I'm willing to spend despite dropping in price, substantially.

Is 2024 the year to buy an M1 Mac? For me, personally, absolutely not. However, with that said, I'm still keeping my eyes open for any viable options in the next few years—Be it finally going the Apple Silicone route, or not.

I can't wait for anything M1 to go down in price even more. Im down with waiting years to get a great deal on apple equipment

Thankfully Ubuntu fulfills my needs, and runs well on my 2010 i7 imac. Though "studio" model would be nice, there are better ways to use that $1600-plus.

Let me ask you: for video editing (Premier Pro), would you recommend a 2012 MBP or a 2015 MBP?
I'm leaning towards a 2015, mostly due to the R9 GPU.

Would you recommend the 2019 16” then? Or not really

The 2019 MacBook Pros are not the last Intel Mac notebooks. They released a 2020 13" Intel MacBook Pro and a 2020 Intel MacBook Air.

M1/M2 Mac cannot use external GPU boxes (eGPU).

M1/M2 Mac cannot run Windows software properly.

Intel-based Macs still offer advantages, today.
