I've learnt to make plotting of two points easier was to show the breakdown of the Cartesian plan being four quadrants. So starting from the top right, first quadrant, if both values are positive, their point will lay in that quadrant. Futhermore going counter clockwise, if the x-values are negative and the y-values are positive, the point is in the second quadrant. The third quadrant has where both x-values and y-values are negative and the fourth quadrant x- values are positive and y-values are negative.
