When I first played the campaign, I noticed how easily the guardsman would die during battle. And your NPC companions have health bar. I got this impression of every unit will have a health value in the game. When it comes to this defense sequence, I noticed those injured marines retreating. I was focusing my fire on the enemies around them because I genuinely thought if too much enemies attack them, they would die.

1st time seeing this part: what a glorious moment, lots of Astartes defending the standard.
After seeing the details: They dont call battle brothers for nothing. In glory or vengeance they fought together. A lot deeper meaning.
