There’s a cut around 5 minutes and 15 seconds : the content switches in a weird way in the middle of a sentence. Just FYI 😉

Decision is even more difficult when you consider that the MacBook Pro 14 has been on sell at $1799 at times.

Regarding cooling, you can do that bottom heatsink mod that Linus Tech Tips did on the M1 version. You’ll probably burn your lap, but you increase sustained performance

Just out of curiosity - what kind of files do people store inside their computer nowadays? When music is streamed and photos are in the cloud, I can't think of a reason to buy more storage unless you're editing videos or making music

Just get the base model. Remember the whole point of the Air was to get an inexpensive laptop that can get your basic necessities done. Anything more you might as well opt for the Pro models. With that extra $150-$200 in Apple tax on top of the price, this laptop is way too expensive even for the base model. Just get the more affordable M1, or if you really love this M2 design and 1080p camera get the base model.

I really use the touchbar a lot, so to lose it on the MacBook Air is a big one. You don’t realize how much you miss it until you don’t have it - I had a MacBook Air M1 and went out and got the M1 MacBook Pro because I missed it so much…

I'm getting the Midnight MacBook Air with 8GB ram and 512GB hard drive. I was going to get the 256GB hard drive model until I found out about the slow disc speeds.

The main mistake anyone would make is upgrading to one of these M2 MacBooks in the first place. Or any M Mac. 256GB as the base storage option? Really? In 2022? This is a complete joke, especially considering that, unlike the Intel Macs, these systems are effectively incapable of being upgraded down the line. Seriously, my iPhone XS Max alone has 512GB. My 2011 iMac, with its upgraded 2TB SSD, continues to be the primary computer for my family’s photos and mostly 1080p videos. Considering that the base M1 MB Air performs as good as the last generation of high-end Intel MB Pro’s, one has to wonder where Apple expects us to store all this 4K video that is now the preferred standard. The storage upgrades have always been a ripoff, even more so now with these new unified designs. All base models should start at a min. 512GB and be upgradeable to at least 4TB. For me this a dealbreaker. Until then I’ll stick with my 2011 iMac and 2013 MacBook Pro 15. At least they’re still upgradeable.

Base model or 8+512gb only please. 16+512 ($1699) might as well you go for base 14" M1 Pro at $1799~1899

I have the M1 MacBook Air (Space Grey). It does everything I need. It’s the best laptop for the price. IMO for the average user - it’s not worth upgrading anymore. The upgrades are incremental at best. Plus the laptop notch is not for me. I hope you don’t have to wait 3 months to receive your laptop. Great video btw.

to be fair the 8gb ram is a lot better Han 8gb in any other random laptop.... Apples ram tends to be much more efficient and better... so most people are good with 8gb

I ordered the M2 Air configuration just as you described: Midnight, 10 core GPU, 16G memory, 512G storage. As a bonus, it upgraded my power supply with duel USB-C ports ($20 savings). The primary reason the M2 13” Pro would be worth it is that the consumer must have that Touch Bar- which I think is still pretty cool. But not enough to justify the purchase. The 14” Pro is out of my price range.

The bigger question is should I be getting the M2 MBA or M1P MBP

Is M1 or M2 better for Photoshop and Corel Painter?

1699 for the air I'd buy
8 CPU/10 GPU
16GB RAM
512GB

None of the above. What I want is an M2 Mac mini or an M2 iMac 27" or 32".

None. Base M2 Air has slow ssd speeds and upgrading brings price too close to base 14 inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro which is a much better laptop, and a much better deal. Or buy base M1 Air for non demanding tasks.

Would getting M2 Air 16Gb Ram and 256Gb SSD be enough for coding, video editing, 3d softwares etc be sufficient... cause that's the max I could stretch my budget... or is it necessary to get the 512Gb version with 16Gb Ram
