Katelyn Tuohy was back for the 5000m in Dresden as she went for a sub 15 attempt, but she saw other American runners overtake her in the final couple of kilometers including Elly Henes and Josette Andrews.

Tuohy is young, coming off an injury, not yet back into long term training. These things take time, for goodness sakes. Expecting too much too soon puts one in a self-defeating loop. Patience, smart training, and smart running are the keys. Two years from now is a good time to check in.

I just hope she doesn't re-injure herself. If she takes it slow and easy, the times will come. When she ran 15:07 a few weeks ago she looked great.

I am curious if Touhy would benefit from new coaching. I know she loves staying with her old teammates but she may benefit from some new ideas beyond Henes. Not to say she will not improve (her injury I think was a pretty big set back) though if she stays the course.

She ran 3:04 per kilometer. That's not bad for someone coming off injury and still VERY young. Did she fade a bit? Yes, but she may be using these races to gauge her fitness and see how much work/practice she needs to move up. Remember, she is a recent t college student while the other have been pros for a few years. #patience

Tuohy is a great runner particularly in HS. But it is hard to maintain. People on this post are saying be patient she is is 22. But for placing in International races, she is at the right age and not too young. Olympic champions such as keely Hodgkinson, Athing Mu and others are also 22. She probably has a lot of pressure on her and that is no fun. But, since she is now pro, and no disrespect to her current coach, she needs a new coach.

WR 5000 m is 14:00:21. Katelyn's PB is 15:03.12. One thing is to be NCAA champion and another is to race on the world scene.

How are you watching or finding out about these pro events for different runners I'm a Katelyn tuohy fan and Ellie henes fan but how did you know they were running what schedule are you looking at to find out where they run or how do you find out about their schedules. Can you please comment and give me the site to look for or app to look for so that I can keep up with some pro runners that I'm interested in. Thank you

Touhy just got the biggest REALITY CHECK of her career. Winning track meets in America does NOT mean you are ready for the international level. She is not there yet. She is young. She competes more internationally and UP her training, and she should be in the elite level pretty she needed this reality check to make her see that what she's been doing in her training does not cut it to be an international competitor.

Please stop going on and on about being a "pro" runner. There is no such category as "Pro" runner. These races are all Open Grade races. Once a runner hits age 20 they are ALL classed as Open Grade runners. Many do not have high paying specialist Club (Nike, Puma, Adidas etc) earnings. Nor large athletic gear or Shoe contracts. It is only the USA that has a closed off group they refer to as College runners. Generally, they get Scholorships to a College to run and they in effect become semi-pro. That's because they get College tuition fees paid, sometimes accommodation, plus Coaching, running gear and shoes, travel expenses to the College meets, some medical aspects. Etc. So, in spite of denials, they are already semi-pro. Other athletes, not attending University/College, cannot compete in those College Meets. This gives a false impression when media goes on about how good the College runners are. Winning NCAA College titles etc is misleading. NOTE: College level is NOT the top level of running. That is Open Grade. NCAA for instance is aimed at athletes aged 18-25. Most top runners do not hit their physical peaks until around 28-30. Yes, a few exceptional runners do earlier but it's not the norm.
The vast majority of runners at the Olympics are not considered Pro runners. Most cannot live on winnings and small sponsorships and actually work full time or part time, to support their running career.

Too many excuses for Tuohy, I've followed her since HS, one thing about her and probably her biggest issue, if you pass her your mentally break her, she has no response for it. Yes she gets injured, maybe too frequently, yes she is still young but there are other runners out there getting it done, there was tremendous expectations of her, there still is but time doesn't wait for anyone.
