Sad eyed raccoon begs for a cookie

A raccoon I call "Cutie" stood behind the patio door with sad eyes and begged for her favorite treat, a cookie. I opened the door and gave her one. Then, a few more raccoons lined up to get theirs. These raccoons have me trained. How can anyone say no to those beautiful eyes?

Not a bit surprised at how polite they can be. I've fed raccoons off and on for many years. This type of behavior is the norm not the exception. Yes, some are aggressive and some become rabid but public opinion is oftentimes that they are all aggressive or rabid ! They are so misunderstood. I'm not advocating " everybody feed raccoons or be friendly to raccoons", quite the contrary as they are wild animals that need that special understanding or acknowledgement.

We had a possum that we named Cleatus that would come every night looking for cat food on the roof of our shed. He ate along side the cat named Frankie.

I’m so happy I’m not the only weirdo feeding and naming my neighborhood raccoons lol. My boyfriend was just lecturing me how it’s “getting out of hand” because I went grocery shopping and brought home four new foods for the raccoons to try ❤

If you're feeding them cookies no wonder they're so fat. That's not good for them. Maybe buy some baloney and give them bologna or wieners even that would be better than cookies for them
