For the longest time ive been having second thoughts as to whether i buy carbon or alloy, 27.5 or 29, trail or enduro. This video gave me the best insight. Thanks so much!

One of the torque wrenches is facing the wrong (right) side. The bottom one. Nothing wrong with that, just my OCD kicking in :). Love the show btw.

Excellent explanation of the 29 vs 27.5 & suspension travel question! I've been pondering this very thing. Thank you!

I personally would ALWAYS go with alu and better spec over carbon with cheaper stuff

@02:04 Had the same problem with my SC SOLO last year. I tackled the challenge of building it myself. The problem was that I installed one spacer on each side of the BB, so when I torqued the cranks to spec, they rubbed against the bearings. Removed the spacers and the crank hasn't come loose ever since.
hope this helps.

Excellent!! I'm debating between carbon and aluminum hardtail. This was a GREAT breakdown of the pros and cons. For me, since I'm on a budget, I think I'll go aluminum

I buy alloy frames and over time, I work with my mechanic to buy lighter and better components to compensate for the weight. On a mountain bike, especially a Hardtail, I would want the extra durability on the frame.

I had that same question when buying my bike, alloy frame with super good components, or a carbon frame with cheaper components, I chose the allow as it had carbon wheels and fox elite fox and shock with xt drivetrain. I totally recommend this option

4:48 Doddy, I think the question was about floating brake calipers :)

I once took my 130 mil travel on a double black in Northstar. Very capable👍

They normally do travel differences for frame clearance. A 29inch wheel being larger in diameter will sit closer to the frame than a 27.5. With the exception of some forks like the Zebb which has a higher mounting point on the 27.5 wheel fork than it's 29inch brother.

I always thought the shorter travel 29 was due to the room when the larger back wheel moves up. And to have more travel they would need longer stays. But that was just a guess

I had the actual choice of alloy or carbon transition smuggler and I chose alloy. I don’t worry too much about weight but I also plan on advancing my skills which likely means I’ll crash. I’m more comfortable in the relatability in aluminum bike frames.
