A Look Back at AMD's Most Powerful First Generation Desktop APU

With AMD's new Ryzen APUs on the way, I thought we'd take a look back to where it all began with the most powerful release in the first generation Llano FM1 lineup. Having owned the weakest at the time, the dual core A4 3300, the more expensive A6 and A8 quad core range were processors I could only dream of owning back in 2011.

That performance is genuinely suprising, I wonder if its another case of the CPU Section Bottlenecking the GPU.... Id guess no as it seems far more balanced than some of the later AMD APU's.

I had this for my very first setup. I learned that allocating more vram helped with some games. I set mine to use 2gb of my ram for graphics. For a first gen apu, i liked it

I own a second generation APU A10-7850k paired with 8Gb 2133mhz and it's performance never let me down. It's cool to see that even first generation had an acceptable performance at the time. Nice video!

Wow this video takes me back! That was the CPU i used in my first "gaming" computer. Suffice to say I didn't know a lot about computers then and I had a pretty restrictive budget. But that CPU still holds a special place in my heart.

I still use A-8 3850 :) but have dedicated GPU now, as a CPU it's decent for what it is can't complain, serving me well.

I have an athlon ii x4 651k in a fm1 soket at 3.5ghz and its perform very well with my gt 1030 :D
