Yes it is a difficult job, i was a mechanical engineer before I became a college professor and I can say being an engineer is much more comfortable job than being a professor that is because as an engineer your job tasks end as the working hours ends, on the other hand being a professor is a full time 24 hour job, even when you get home you are doing a ton of work from marking to preparing the lecturers to doing research so it is a difficult 24 hrs job and as a result you spend much less time with your family.
