Made my day what you said about your first amp. I am right there with you and other's picking up my first amp and guitar in the eighties. Love the channel and keep up the great work.

Definitely not “unusable” just gotta find that sweet spot gets fairly gnarly like a rat

First off, thanks for answering my Electro-Harmonix Octave question on your live stream. I really appreciate your knowledge on pedals and other gear. I focus more on guitars and pups, but I don't buy anything new without checking in with your channel, thanks!

It’s not the worst sound haha. The pedal looks like it would be owned by people with really grimy guitars with old strings.

So i have a pedal board, with over 15 pedals. Two of which are iso bricks. Mrx, an voodoo. Most of the pedals are minis. Hof reverb, Ep booster, Sp compresser, mini tube screamer, mxr carbon copy, trem, two donner pedals waw / volume an tunner, two boss, ds1 an acoustic sim, ernie ball volume pedal, hx stomp an hx effects, as well as line 6 wireless guitar plug. Pedal board is a SKB that also had the power source box built in to the broad which is a board / case all in one. I really thinking about upgrading it, an selling everything just for a line 6 helix, but not sure what i might get in return or torse my goal. Love this pedal board that i built, ( with all the chords, also have a 13 inch pedal board voodoo lab pedal board inside the SKB.) This board is heavy. Now not sure how much i could get for all this an was wondering if downloading patches onto the hx stomp an hx effects devalue them?

I think I'd put the volume around 2 o'clock, balance around 2 o'clock, distortion anywhere from 3 0'clock to dimed and the tone from anywhere around 9 0'clock to off. I don't think that would be a sincere heavy metal tone but I'm sure it would have a great sound for all rock music played with my SG, Strat or Melody Maker.

as soon as you turned it on, I liked what i heard

It reminds me alot of the tone on Wolverine Blues by Entombed

According to a quick web research, it uses two distortion stages for highs and lows in parallel. The balance knob is to....balance (lol)... between both stages.
Dial it right and you get a good sounding distortion, at least to my ears.

It sounds like the 80's to me. I can't remember too many pedals from then that sounded very good but I did love my Boss DS-1. Still have my original.

If you dial it in right and either boost it with a tube screamer and/or use the dist as a boost to ur amp distortion it could make for a decent thrash metal tone or black metal tone. I had a boss mega distortion that was the same way. (Both pedals sounded pretty similar)

The overdrive version of these pedals are excellent

I will take it. Sounds like 80s metal. Blows metal zone.away. I'm a traditional metal guy but I started in 67. Had a head start on you. My first amp was a Bassmen, guitar was a 335.

love the aprements joke that was a good one.

the Balance Control shifts the mids [low-hiigh]. The Tone sounds like a high-pass filter [useful only to clear the bottom end; if pushed more it's out of guitar territory].
Yamaha did make more stomp format effects: DG, AG, UD and Magic.

Sounded good going through a gorilla amp in 86.

Have you tried using it in the effects loop of your amp?

Another great video Robert. At least they made the thing out of metal. You should if you haven't yet, check out the MXR Command series pedals. I bought one in the 80's and they were made out of plastic. Can't understand why a company would make something you stomp on that flimsy. Thanks for what you do.
