The ugly truth: In 2008 Ukraine formally requested a "membership action plan" from NATO - which is the first step in joining. The USA was pushing for it, but Germany & France wet their pants because Putin "voiced his displeasure".
So Ukraine promised that "some day" Ukraine will become a member, but doesn't give them further instruction in hw to do this. Crickets.
But they did let Estonia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, & Slovenia join.
And you can throw in the trash any comment you make about Ukraine being corrupt. There isn't a single NATO member nation that's not corrupt.
Not to let Russia off the hook, but NATO is just as responsible for rebuilding Ukraine as Russia is. If they would've let Ukraine join - this invasion would've never happened.

Ukraine was once inseparable part of Russia until Soviet Union taking over after WW1 over, which consequently lead to creation of Ukraine statehood as we know today. Do you expect Russia will just watching by seeing Ukraine Join NATO? I dont think so. Both side should reach settlement on their own without NATO intervention
