Clone Hardware Wallets. Same Seed on Multiple Devices (Trezor, Ledger, Keepkey, Coldcard, SafePal)

Показать описание
A short video that looks at what happens when you restore the same seed phrase onto multiple hardware wallets. (Trezor, Ledger, Keepkey, Coldcard, SafePal) A great demo of why it doesn't matter if Ledger, Trezor, etc, go broke and also why it's easy to move to a new hardware wallet by simply importing an existing seed phrase. The videos look at some of the benefits of doing this as well as some of the risks that go along with it...

---------------------

If you are new to Crypto, my suggestion is that you start with buying ~$150 worth of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin @ Coinbase and get familiar with storing it, moving it around, etc.

By sticking with large, reputable exchanges for your first purchase (Coinbase) and first trade (Binance) you can avoid getting scammed right at the start by purchasing a non-existing coin off a scammy exchange. (You would be surprised how many people fall into this trap)

Don't have a hardware wallet?
Be safe and buy them direct from the manufacturer. (Not just through some random on eBay, Amazon, etc)
(If you are just starting out, I would just recommend a Ledger Nano S)

I invested in btc in 2011. I had a friend helping me because I had no idea of what to do. He gave me a file in a flash drive back then. Since then, I’ve been trying to learn more and more, but never had the time to sit and watch many videos. When I started last year, I found a bunch of videos with crypto gurus announcing the 250k bitcoin and/or the crash. Also, a lot of paid content to promote exchanges and platforms. I’m happy that I’ve found your channel since it is very informative and your site has a lot of useful information. Thanks.

True, however something important to consider is the type of Bitcoin wallet you are using legacy, segwit1, or segwit2, for example if using legacy Bitcoin and restored on a wallet that only supports segwit2 your funds will show as 0, so it is important to know the type of wallet when restoring on another hardware wallet, for example electrum (coldcard) gives you 3 choices, trezor 2 choices, ledger I believe it is 3 choices, also sometimes it's possible to run into strange problems for example I restored a zion on a trezor and the balance was not correct, maybe Zion had migrated to segwit2 and trezor was on segwit1. The very importing thing to remember as long as you have the seed secure your funds are safe.

you should STILL be very careful of what you do, the seed phrase is not all there is to it, the derivation path is also important! segwit enabled wallets wont show funds on keepkey client, for example. Most hardware wallets use m/44'/0'/0'/0 but you should check that first too

Great video. This clears up a lot of questions I had. One question that remains, though is the following: If you had a passphrase enabled on your trezor and you want to restore it to a ledger nano S, is that possible? Or will ledger not recognize the trezor created passphrase?

I have the same seed on my old nano s which I swapped out as I was fed up of constantly having to add and remove apps and new nano s plus which holds all apps at the same time. I probably won't use the old wallet again but it's good to have in case I break or lose the new one . Ensure you keep the firmware up to date on all devices, as they could have fixes to bugs or potential vulnerabilities

Thanks for the information on this. I have a question.

I have the same seed on two ledger nano wallets. If one of them was to end up in the wrong hands and the amount of pin code attempts was exceeded and thus reset it factory settings, would this have any affect on the hardware wallet which is still in my possession? Ie would I still be able to access the device with my pin code?

I have a Ledger X and a Nano S and was wondering how to setup the Nano S as a backup. I want to give the second device to a trusted person but want to make it as easy as possible to use if need be. You touched on this matter and if I am understanding you correctly all I would need to do is setup second device with same seed phrase and download whatever apps I am able to and it will achieve this goal

So if someone tampered a hardware wallet you could just reset the keys and you would be good to go right?

I have a Ledger Nano S Plus, which uses a 24-word recovery phrase. How can I create a second hardware wallet as a backup if I want to use a different brand, like Trezor, when Trezor uses a 12-word recovery seed? Don't the two hardware wallets need to have recovery phrases of the same length?

Its best OPSEC to NEVER use the same seed phrase on different devices. When moving to a NEW hardware wallet, its better to use a NEW seed phrase there. Then you send a TEST AMOUNT to that NEW device to see if it gets there securely and to see that it doesnt get stolen. If it doesnt get stolen, send the rest to that entirely new wallet.

Always send test amounts to new wallets before storing all your savings on it.

Call them Hardware Key Signers, to stop this wallet confusion.

Sorry to bother you on a Sunday, bit it was not the lighting. Could it be that I need to create a new wallet instead of recovering a wallet, which is what I have done. Surprisingly your video as far as I can find is the only one covering this topic on all of YouTube, and wondering if all Cold hardware wallet holders are aware this is possible? Thanks in advance Crypto! Guide!

Thank you very much! I have a question, I got TRON(TRX) on my ledger and I want to use a Trezor as backup, but I saw TRON is not supported by Trezor, is there a problem/risk loose my TRON or I won't just see my TRON on Trezor?
