I assume that WAL files will pile up after some time. Is there a way that that can be cleaned up?

For example, if I don't need WAL records going further than one month, is there an automated way to create a new "checkpoint" or a new base backup, delete old WAL files, and resume WAL generation from the new "checkpoint"?

The goal is to avoid cluttering the server with unnecessary WAL files as much as possible and preferably in an automated fashion.
