When everyone refuses to work as a protest, you know they mean business

The real reason behind the rage is the rumour (almost a fact) that one of the trains that crashed was moving some chemicals illegally, probably to smuggle them to other countries. The chemicals are the reason for the severity of the fire that broke out and killed most of the people. This is something that officials tried to cover up by literally pouring concrete all over the crime scene. The corruption in Greece is a well known fact and I am glad that the people are taking such a decisive stance against it for once, despite their political ideologies.

Don't forget that the government also tried to cover up the accident and tried to act like it never happened.

I'm a Greek living in Greece. I've gone to the protest. I have never seen so many people in one place.
In the capital itself, more than 1 million people gathered.
The police started throwing to the protesters molotofs and cry bombs, wanting the protesters to go violent, so they have an excuse to use violence against the protesters.
Which unfortunately did happen. They even brought the water sprinkler.
Some protesters even throwed molotov bombs in the our " White house"( I don't know how to translate in English).
About the accident itself, it could have been avoided if the one's responsible for the railway heard the workers of the railway and actually fixed stuff and upgraded them. Instead, they kept on cutting the personnel and the funding while pocketing the money.
They've tried so many times to shut the victims parents up, to conceal the evidence by putting cemented on the road . There were not enough doctors on the site of the accident and the first responders themselves wouldn't even go in the trains to help people! They literally waited for the fire to doe down so the have less people to take care of and more safety for themselves.
The only reason so many people survived, was because of literal passerbies and tourists!
Also, the reason the government wanted so desperately to dispose of the evidence, was because a few years ago they sold a share of the public railway to a private Italian company ( they most probably were part of the mafia).
The Italian company made the government sign a contract in wich any accident in the railway wasn't their fault, but the government's. The Italians then put as cargo illegal, very flammable substances, that when lit up they literally suck the oxygen around the flame.
Hence why so many victims had no oxygen when the explosion happened.
But that's not the only reason why we young people despise the government. They've sold our harbours, our historical sites, our public electricity supply, our land to private foreign companies. All while they pockets the money saying it's for the betterment of the country.
The damage to our public health is evident when there were not enough doctors to pronounce someone dead for one and half ours when on the site of the accident!
Latly they also attacked our free education, wanting to make everyone go to private schools.

I'm sorry for my rubbling. It's just that I feel so angry with everything that's happening. They still think that a smile and some promises can make us forget again.
I want to ask them, what are you going to say to the little kid that lost his mother because of you?! What are you going to say to the parents of the victims, if you look them in the eye? Can you say again that this was an accident?
For me personally, as one of the parents of the victims said it, " For me, I can't call it an accident, because it isn't. This is a crime against their very own people"
Sorry again for making this so long. I hope though that I've provided some clarity as to why things are the way they are here.

As a Greek this is not exactly what's going on! This accident happened 2 years ago! The problem is nothing changed for the safety measured since then, so this can happen again at any given point!

At the same time the government cemented the place 3 days after the accident covering all the evidence on what happened, 2 key witnesses die in "car accident" suddenly short after, the only prosecutor who went against the government, 2 days after she announces it her child goes missing only to be found dead 50 days later...

We have no prime minister, we have a crime minister, we are the Columbia of EU

We don’t think they are, we KNOW they are responsible.

The problem isn't only that the accident happen. It happened because they did not take the necessary precaution, even after railway workers have been asking for them for years. There is is also an on-going investigation to whenever one of the two trains was carrying illegal cargo (cargo that shouldn't be on the train due to safety concerns). Our brilliant government's response to the accident, was to try to hide evidence since day zero. With 57 lives lost on the train, two key witnesses and one prosecutor's son dead between 02/2023 and now, I think it's quite clear what is happening.
