Honestly the idea of the ending in itself is not a bad thing… it’s just that the story was CLEARLY never heading in that direction. This decision was obviously a last minute ending to a show that either ran out of budget or was on the verge of being axed. When observing the effects, visual quality, fights, world building, and multi-character perspectives from season 1 and 2, you can tell something clearly went wrong in season 3.

Hats off to the actors pretending to like season 3, best acting I've seen in a while. Seriously though the writers fucked up here, the actors got screwed and so did we

We hated the ending. But you all are excellent actors. I loved the hilarious scenes with the counselor. He was one of my favorite characters in Lilyhammer.

I'll choose to believe that it was all real and that what Magne saw was actually what could have happened if they had chosen the war. The schizophrenia part is for me just Magne remembering how they diagnosed him with that when he told them everything. I simply refuse to believe that this was all in Magne's head😅because it's an awful ending

After watching the final episode I had a strong feeling of emptiness resulting from the fact that all of those epic events took place only in mind of Magne 😢 Ending like this makes all 3 seasons irrelevant, but it is only my subjective opinion.

Indeed, honestly the ending was completely atrocious. But I agree with the others - amazing acting, everyone did such a fantastic job, these are characters I will remember as powerful symbols of these forces of the mind and spirit.

Whoever came up with this ending should be banned from ever writing again.

Herman seems to be have the same feelings we do, just he has to word it in the most professional way so that he doesn’t get in trouble. Actually such a lackluster and aggravating ending.

I've just finished watching the final episode and I have to say I am really saddened by it. Something about this show touched me from the very first episode of series one, so I'm sad that it ended in such an incoherent way and with a such wasted opportunity. Don't get me wrong I'd have loved a storyline that saw Magne suffer a psychotic break as a result of the trauma of moving back to Edda and the death of Isolde - withdrawing into a fantasy inspired by his childhood comics - and I would have been incredibly moved by the final ending reveal, but only if the entire show had been written in such a way than on rewatching with the hindsight of the ending, it would have been clear what the truth had been all along, which would make any rewatch very poignant and moving now really understanding what was going on and making sense of things. But that was absolutely not the case in the writing of this show and all I'm left with is confusion as to what bits were real and what bits were his delusions, and so it renders the entire programme empty.

In addition as someone who has known two people whose lives have been devastated by schizophrenia the ending in which Magne seems to just choose to get better, symbolically shown by his throwing away the comics, leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. If only it were that easy!

My disappointment and sadness aside, I'm grateful to this show for introducing me to a bunch of wonderful actors and the loveliness of the Norwegian language. I don't fault them at all and they did fantastically well in the final episodes with the scripts they were given. I hope to see them in lots more programmes in the future and will not hesitate to watch anything they are in.

Screw that ending. They could’ve pulled off all the metaphors and stuff without making it his schizophrenic epsiode

“You know what the issue is with this world? Everyone wants to have a magical solution to their problem but everyone refuses to believe in magic.” You shouldn’t have taken the magic away from us in the last episode, I think we needed this in this time we live in. Still, great acting from everyone and great episode up until 5.

The writers sure jumped the shark with this season and especially the ending. I really hope to see some of these actors again. They made the show. Gísli Örn aka Vidar and Theresa aka Saxa were my favorites.

Some are comparing this to the ending of Lost. But it's very different. Lost explicitly made clear that all events actually happened as the viewer saw it. None of it was a fiction except for the alternate side story in Season 6, which was a sort of purgatory they created together AFTER all of the events of the story. Ragnarok just slapped us in the face and said, "Gotcha! It was all in Magne's head."

You can’t justify the terrible ending you just can’t.

I don't think it was all in magne's head, they chose to lay down their weapons and live in peace. So I believe magne was just seeing Ragnarok play out in his head as what would've happened. He discovered his powers before isolde died and had to look online about mythology so obviously forgot about his comics till the end.

The interpretation isn't necessarily that none of what went on was real, remember, several scenes depicting the supernatural behavior of the gods and giants took place in Magne's absence, but once Magne opted for a peaceful resolution to the age old conflict, perhaps the spirits of the ancient gods and giants left their mortal hosts, after all, the characters of those myths are only as powerful as our imagination allows, and although history often repeats itself, it doesn't have to. Scripts don't have to be followed, and people can change.

This show took me through a journey which felt almost dream like. Had it not been for the actors, the cinematograhy, the music, I would have never realised how beautiful Norway is. The ending made me feel sad only because I knew we won't get more seasons. One of the best non english language show that I have seen so far. Can't wait to see all the cast members to be recasted in other shows as well Netflix !

LET IT BE KNOWN, we all think this was the worst and most terrible ending to a great story line!!! and should be continued!

Truly a mark of excellence from the actors that they continue to act at this level even in this video saying they like the ending XD 99% of people that watched the series think this was the absolute worst way the show could have ended. Stop saying there are mixed reactions lol. "Then Harry woke from his dream of wizards and magic in his bed under the stairs"
