The quintessential YES tune. Never gets old but existed long before the big bang.

the sheer fact Chris
(read carefully)

Could sing and PLAY that simultaneously.

folks, as a bass player myself this piece is,

DEFCON 5, in terms of difficulty to get right.

RIP.
Maestro, Chris Squire.

This is from the expanded Close To The Edge CD. I've always loved this version.

One of the top ten of progressive rock.
The pure sound of this studio version enable us to appreciate the great musicians in the best formation of Yes.
Thanks for posting.

No, no, no! Not my heroes sounding like mere mortals, trying to figure stuff out! Wow. Amazing how much of the process we fans take for granted. 3 months to make this album? Well, the results, I must say, were well worth it. The final result is mythic.

Even raw yes is better than any band of it’s time. Year after year it’s sounds incredible. Shaping of my musical youth.
RIP Chris

The truth is, that this was the best line up. And those 3 albums (you know the one's) have never truly been surpassed. Not that Relayer & GFTO came very close.

Absolutely fascinating! So raw and crisp, the ideas close but still being tweaked. Nice loud Bruford. Thanks for sharing!

Wakeman´s mellotron in 6:24 is really wonderful...

Absolutely wonderful!! Remember seen them for the first time here on YouTube, the first of all was Roundabout.... Life has never been the same since this marvelous album called "Close To The Edge".

I saw them open with this song twice; at th eHollywood Sportatorium in 1977 and at the West Palm Beach outdoor arena years later. The most talented band ever, in my humble opinion. Blessed be~

After listening the final version so many times is very interesting to listen this and is strange the absence of the guitar solo at the end of the song

The freedom to create! this is what's missing.

The keyboards have a real 60s vibe going on there, interesting!

better than the polished version, the rawness and energy in the playing, without the studio production.
