great video. programming isn’t typing, it’s constraint reduction. it’s searching through the problem space by forcing it into smaller and smaller branches you can reason about. programming is planning. LLMs can mimic code. they don’t form abstractions from scratch, reason about invariants, or architect systems. they complete structure from priors. no goals, no state tracking, no recursive planning.

i seriously question the programming legitimacy of these ml people cracked out on pytorch as anyone who programs and actually builds systems and isnt slotting in data variables into prebuilt frameworks would instantly cackle at the notion of 'vibe coding' as anything but pure delusion. javascript and python were a mistake.

Is there a single successful commercial product that's majority written in AI yet? I mean if AI was has been 10Xing developer productivity now for over a year we should be seeing products created with AI that are at the level of maturity of a 10 year codebase right? And yet, rather conspicuously, nothing. We are somehow supposed to believe that programming as we know it is dead as the vast productivity gains of AI devs kick in any day now and yet where's the software? The only business niche I've seen AI create is various dev / web interfaces to AI tools that are little more than API collections or VS code plugins masquerading as IDEs. Where's the new stuff?

I am yet to see AI do much more for productivity than snippets and macros can on any project of consequence. Too many people and companies are hedging on AI doing things we have no reason to think it will be able to.

Guess another channel farming in AI. Sad tbh, but the title, the caps lock wording just all feel like sensationalizing. Enjoyed the channel initially for more concise and topics that wasn't always covered and nicher areas around devops. Nothing said in this video hasn't been said by every other tech channel out there.
