Exciting! Civil construction to Bakersfield is funded, and should start up between now and 2026. The sooner the rest of the Merced-Bakersfield segment is funded, the sooner it gets done, the less it’ll cost, and the sooner people will be able to start riding the trains. The goal remains launching service in the early 2030s.

Very exciting for the residents of Bakersfield. As an Angeleno, I'm jealous they're getting a CAHSR station before LA, but I understand. Looking forward to visiting Bakersfield when I go to take the CAHSR. I want to check out the Basque eateries there, too.

If CAHSR, High Desert Rail, and BLW create a bundle pass like the JR Pass in Japan, I will definitely travel to every station along the high speed rail route. It’s what I did when I visited Japan.

I really wish they had decided to co-locate the CAHSR with the existing Amtrak station. It would make a lot more sense for regional connectivity.
