To me this song is about a love that is so strong, it's ultimately dangerous. One person in the relationship seems so obsessed they become possesive over their loved one, holding them hostage. Also, theres a faint "im sorry" during the beggining of the song, which makes it even easier to see what the song is about. Props to Billie for making such a beautiful song💕

I was once in a abusive relationship, he didn't hit or hurt me physically and he doesn't have to to make it abusive, he was abusive mentally and emotionally and it was such a toxic relationship. The type of relationship where you can't move and everything's rushed but you're slowly losing your mind because everything you do is a big deal and there's not a day you wish you never met him/her but then you also wish they won't be gone from you too soon. It's like you're stuck in an endless loop of dull pain that won't ever stop until you do something, something brave. Like telling them the truth of how you feel and how the relationship isn't working anymore. But then again, you're too scared to move or do anything. But I'm glad that I got rid of it. And I'm living free and happily and I'm the best and healthiest version of myself now.
So to those who were and still are stuck in a situation like that always follow your heart and don't ever forget to breathe and take time to love yourself. And Always think things through.

Am I the only who sees this song as like an abusive relationship? The person singing being the abuser. See the line "let me hold Like a hostage." a hostage is someone you are forcing to stay with you. The abuser is forcing the other person into this relationship. That small "I'm sorry" in the background is the victim apologizing for absolutely nothing. "I wanna steal your soul, and hide you in my treasure chest." The abuser will take away the victims happiness, love, and soul, and hide them from anyone else. Idk, I just see it that way.
