AstraZeneca vaccine 'safe and effective' - EU regulator

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) says the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine is "safe and effective" to use.

It follows an investigation into reports of blood clots in a small number of recipients after receiving the vaccine and 11 countries suspending the use of the jab.

This is fundamentally a question of ethics:

- Those national agencies that has suspended the vaccine has done so on the grounds that patients should be able to give informed consent. In other words they should know the risks and take the vaccine with open eyes.
- This is in contrast with both the EMA, WTO and the U.K. that has decided to push on with vaccinations on based on a “utilitarian logic”. In other words that the individual patient is of little importance in the grand scale, and that the best a county can do is to get as many people vaccinated as possible for “the greater good”.

In the second context it is less important that the patient is adequately informed, because it is the end results that matters. In the first context every life and every consent matters, so it is worth investigating even if it might resolve in a worse outcome.

The UK has still not exported ONE VACCINE to another country around the world, while the EU has allowed vaccines to be exported to over 30 countries in the last 6 weeks. Shameful behaviour by the UK.
