Robot breaks world record solving Rubik's cube in 0.637 seconds

German engineer Albert Beer has continued to work on his Sub1 robot since achieving the record for the Fastest robot to solve a Rubik's Cube back in January 2016.

Well that's faster than I can slam one into a wall....

That looks like a good speed cube that it's solving, probably has really good corner cutting. Unfortunately it does not appear like this robot is exploiting that, instead it looks like it is doing 1 full turn before starting the next one. I can't help but feel like this could further be optimized, and thus made faster, by starting the next turn before the end of the previous one. Might only be possible when the first turn is only being done to a single side (as apposed to 2 sides being turned simultaneously or a "double turn") but that is still most of the turns. You could try getting the 2nd turn to start after the first is 99% complete and then gradually decrease that percentage until the cube stops being stable and begins popping/exploding.

Seems like this could be done faster by using a cube that allows corner cutting. Also moving the motors closer to the cube would remove mechanical give from the system
