After a few years of testing multiple models of the Salomon Forces line I have to say these boots and shoes are first class. They have robust construction while maintaining a light weight and comfortable design has proven to a very well rounded shoe ready for many types of adventures.
Check out the full line of Salomon Forces here and see which one is best suited for your needs:

My wife's favorite shoes to hike with are Solomon. So much so, it's the only shoe we've bought extra pairs of for her before because she'd wear out the tread on them. I never thought about trying them myself. Just been happy wearing Keen for so many years. I'll give them a try with my next purchase. That's absolutely amazing how long those boots last! Thank you!

This video is hands-down, the most informative Salomon Forces video on the internet. Keep up the good work! Ps, im convinced the XA Forces are the best law enforcement boots on the market.

I’ve used the mid XA Forces in coyote for work the last couple years. I’ve worn them on a lot of hikes too. Hands down the best boots I’ve ever had. Durable, comfortable, lightweight, and very breathable (I always go non-GTX because my feet get hot easily).

Rich (and those interested in the Quest 4Ds),

Funny thing before ever seeing your review, our family (for me) actually got the Quest 4D’s you picked up first, except with the higher ankle support.

Sadly, the boot barely even lasted me 3months. Now the year we got them was 2024, and kindly enough Salomon refunded us in full - details of review on their webpage.

Some other guys also purchasing that boot sadly experienced even worse failures than what I had (rear heel stitch completely coming apart).

For me, after 3mo, the location at the balls of the feet had opened where the toe box and sole meet to the leather. I did a water tub test where water would not dry out of the boot in a warm ventilated area until 3days.

The water also would surround the goretex lining and since it would be inside the boot, it actually weighed 2x more than what its original weight was.

Salomon QC may easily have missed this because, you don’t really know until you know, but hopefully they’re working on fixing this boot model.

Just a thought to share because considering boot costs and lifetime a big thing, we were looking forward to the Salomon’s lasting that ~5-6yr range possibly. But, considering the amu of failures they seem to have had recently, we’ve reconsidered.

For those still interested and you get some good boots, glad for you. 👍🏼

I purchased a pair of Quest 4D Forces (non-GTX). Great boots and lasted a couple years of hiking and K9 training in the Northern Nevada BLM. The boots held up quite well for a couple years. In the Winter it gets extremely cold in the high desert and with a good pair of socks you're GTG with these boots. Now I've decided to try the X Ultra 4 Mid GTX boots.

That’s all I have is multiple pairs of Salomon. Best and lightest. I have the quest also and the X Ultra 3 and 4

Very good presentation and review! Definitely in line with my own experience and Tx for pointing out the difference between the models (have been using the speedcross and xa forces for over 600 km/370 miles) through challenging terrains.

I recently got a pair of the Jungle boots (in black) and bought the same size as all my other Salomons. I have found that Salomon, for me, is a 1/2 size different than Merrell and a full size different from McRae and Breville. That said, I've now got about 25 miles on the boots (literally just bought them) and really like them. Looking forward to putting a lot of miles on them here in the Pacific Northwest this summer. Great review, thanks very much!

I was looking to buy a pair of Salomon's but was not quite sure what to settle on. This helps me make an absolute decision. Thank you.

Love solomon. As long as they stay clear of Vibram ill continue to buy but Vibram sux and slips on rocks when solomon uses rubber that sticks to everything.

Helpful video. After watching, I got speed assault 2 and they’re really great.👍

Hey rich, I was wanting to get your opinion on if you prefer the quest boots or the newer ultra boots, and maybe which one you think would be better for a LEO thanks!

You should not rely on the exterior as the determining factor for a boot or shoe to be worn out. The interior will breakdown much faster with sweating, heat trapped inside and the weight of your body. You should look at the miles worn and replace based on that over anything else unless the exterior just falls apart. Your feet may be suffering without you realizing it.

Would you recommend the X Ultra Forces, that you called the hybrid, for law enforcement SWAT team use?

Excellent content. Thanks.
Can you speak to the fit?
Should I size up or are they consistent with other brands?
Looking at the Speed assault 2 GTX for range days here in SWFL.

G’day Rich from Australia!

I had a pair of speed cross 3’s and the sole wore out quite quickly. You did mention a softer compound sole. I thought it was just me (I’m a big guy) and was wearing them in Dubai where it was sub 50C temps in urban areas.

Keep up the great work.
