Starman is a classic and Mega Mushrooms are great.

But by far my favorite is the golden leaf from NSMB2 (3DS) the one where Mario can fly, lasts for a entire level and only has ears+tails and gold-white clothes instead of putting a full-on fursona.

Invincibilty Star is like Boost in Sonic.

Also, I would like to point out that when he comes into contact with an item that grants invincibility, he is also capable of moving faster than normal. This apparent speed boost only lasts as long as the former effect, which is ten seconds for the Super Star, and the entire level for white tanuki and white cat.
