VTVM, Senior VoltOhmyst Repair, Part 1

Encouraged by Bandersentv I dig out my old RCA Senior WV-98C Voltohmyst and see if I can get it working. I think I even had a breakthrough!

Hey George, I just got one of these meters yesterday and it, too had terrible corrosion from the D battery. I've found that vinegar soaked in a paper towel will neutralize the corrosion. Sometimes you can even see it working as the corrosion sizzles and bubbles away. I've used this technique on lots of corroded battery terminals and it works very well. Good luck with your meter. Tom

I had the same problem. I changed the tube out no go. I test the tube it was good but I change the tube again and it worked.

You'll no doubt get it fixed. You're pretty good at this stuff.
Hey...I've never owned a sweep generator. Wouldn't know how to correctly use it if I did. If you do ever get one be sure to do a vid on it. I'll be sitting in the front row of the class.

What kind of capacitors can replace the oil capacitors?
This is for an old VTVM, vacuum tube volt meter.

I am interested in the ECA probe I kind of remember that it had a 1 meg resistor in series with the circuit being tested and would like you to verify this for me as J have no probe for this unit as I also found it at a flea market for cheap, John and old ex tv man.

George, Did you ever find a spare calibration pot unit for your 98C? I have a spare, as well as most any other spare part you need, including an uncorroded board left over from a cannibalization to fix 3 other 98C's.
