The ref was not paying attention. I see this all the time in wrestling with different variations of headlocks.

In bjj (at our local martial arts gym) when you choke your opponent unconscious, you have to buy them a drink lol

My friends dad "SHOWED" me how to do this move and also how to hide it from the ref. I thought my head was going to pop off if my neck didn't break first and he only squeezed for a half a second but long enough for my face to change 50 shades of red and purple. He definitely was missing his high-school alpha days. I think it was half teaching me a badass move and half showing his son that it'll be a while before he should even think about getting tough with dad lol. I said next time " Show" me the move on your son hahaha

My Junior and Senior year in highschool i pinned 30 opponents with that DS Front Headlock to a nearside cradle or the headlock to a chin whip. Great Move. We also called it the Cronenwett Crunch.

I’ve heard that Dave Schultz was known for doing this to people with his front headlock. Nicest guy in the world off the mat, but his own teammates were afraid to practice with him.

That’s a Schultz Front Headlock. Matt Hughes used it in mma to get the only front headlock submission in UFC history.
