Interesting but 42mm for a heritage style watch? swing and a miss there. would have been super cool in 38mm

Got the gold coloured one, it's a cool watch for sure but the red 'lume' isn't actually luminescent. Can highly recommend it overall, it has some serious presence on the wrist!

I have the Alpiner 4. I like the watch very much. It is tough yet very good looking. I typically wear it when I go out at night.

Wow, kudos on the bold move from Alpina. I have a Alpina Startimer Heritage model monopusher, awesome under-rated watch. The bumper movement looks incredible i'm sure these will sell out no problem. Chris thanks for great review!

That's really cool, props to Alpina for doing this.

I like it, I got 3 Alpina Startimer watches and I don’t know why they don’t get more attention from enthusiasts!

Is there an advantage of Alpina's bumper movement such as increased service interval or is this just for the sake of nostalgia?
It looks interesting, but for $3000, there's a lot of more attractive options in my opinion.

Nice watch. Give it another year or two and buy it at 40-60% off.

Other than the way the rotor moves to wind the movement, is there anything else different about it? Seems like a simple mod to just add essentially a stopper to prevent the rotor from going 360° and so it just gets knocked around from either side of this stopper piece. Or, is there more to it than that?
Idk if it's necessarily a good nor novel idea to go with a bumper movement? There must be a reason why most manufacturers don't use this bumper system anymore and are just free spinning, bi- or unidirectional, rotors. Seems from an engineering perspective, a bumper system may be both less efficient and just have that much more components for wear and tear.
Never wore a watch with a bumper movement. Wouldn't it feel distracting to have the rotor bump around all the time? Imagine it might be worst than "rotor wobble" of unidirectional rotors.

The movement is spectacular but the dial looks like buying a timex watch as it so general and simple looking.

I have such a hard time finding mechanical watches because I only care for no-date autos with 100m water resistance... Most are over $2k from luxury brands, or microbrands with ghost dates ... This piece is probably Alpinas only no-date auto and look - highest price!

A modern watch company with massive Japanese tech resources behind it invests in creating an attention-seeking movement in a $3000 timepiece and decides a 38 hour power reserve is just that perfect sweet spot What was the point? Oh, and imagine the design meeting where they said "Let's make it as close to 14mm thick as possible without any complications and no notable water resistance."
