Spain is correct, the territories in America were viceroyalties, not colonies. People who lived in the viceroyalties had the same rights as someone who lived on Iberia.

Actually there is a story that Croatian in the year 925 actually captured antarctica but the boat that went to africa immediatly drowned when returning so it has never been recognised
