The accompanist just beautiful which liberates the singer to simply sing.

Pure Magic. Wow! Thank you Gentlemen. And thank you Oxford Lieder for sharing this with the public. A perfect Testament to what Lieder is all about... I was spellbound when I heard this last night and still the same today. The most arresting interpretation of Morgen! I have ever heard.

Welche Sensibilität und welcher Mut zur Stille. Bravo für Sänger und Begleiter. Seelenbalsam vom Feinsten.

Both musicians with a great control of their own instruments at this level is something we can't find that often nowadays. Great!

Thank you for sharing. The last version that gave me the chills was of Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.

Beautiful from song content and thankfully, the misical interpretation which barely exists. A rereading of Gretchen text by both pianist and singer is in order. And please, cut out the visual drama.

Vielleicht weniger Akademie, mehr aber strömen lasen ...?

Er war Schüler von Fischer Dieskau. Leider merkt man davon nichts.

The constant beginning of phrases ‘con voce bianca’ and then swelling is tedious, and obviously derives from Fischer-Dieskau. He has problems with control of the breath, and his intonation is suspect. A technically deficient singer and yet today a star. Such a decline in expectations when examined historically.

“superb control” - unfortunately that's it. It's too over-controlled for me. I heard an interview with BA on the radio earlier and unfortunately I found him so unnatural when he spoke, everything is “performance”, everything sounds like it's been put together, nothing flows naturally. That sounds harsher than I mean, sorry. I think I regret not being allowed to hear BA in his natural state, and for me he has a really beautiful voice. But this is like his great mentor Dietrich-Fischer-Dieskau, especially in the late recordings: mannered to the point of being unbearable.
My singing teacher once said that always wanting to “do everything well” speaks of a lack of trust in the nature of the voice and the music. For me, that sums up what is missing here. On the other hand, I really like the pianist, this prelude has such a free and fine sound...
