Winston Churchill 'Final Journey' Funeral Train Exhibition - 34051 - York NRM - 4th February 2015

'Churchill's Final Journey' - an exhibition at the National Railway Museum in York with SR 'West Country Class 4-6-2 steam loco No. 34051 'Winston Churchill', SR Luggage Van S2464S and Pullman Coach 'Lydia' which were all included in the formation of the funeral train from Waterloo Station to Oxfordshire on 31st January 1965 that took Churchill to his final resting place.

The exhibition is at The Great Hall of the National Railway Museum in York until May 2015.

Thank you for your kind reply. Unfortunately, the last few years of steam were accompanied by operational changes (staffing cut backs and redundancies), which meant that locos were not seen in the pristine condition that we are now fortunate enough to see them appearing in. ALL preservation volunteers demonstrate fantastic pride in restoring locos, coaches, wagons, as well as stations to their past glory. So, we are now able to see our industrial heritage at it's greatest. I just can't get enough of it.

Beautifully put together Allan, the loco looks magnificent and a superb tribute to Sir Winston Churchill.

Last saw this loco at Eastleigh shed back in '67 and later used to drink with 'Willum', an old Welshman who had been his butler at Chartwell. This excellent presentation brings back very happy memories of good times.This is a loco I have to see.I'd like the same treatment as Winston but I think I'll have to be shovelled through the firebox doors.
