Battledrip - A Backyard Game for Social Distancing

Battledrip is a game I created during the COVID-19 period of quarantine and social distancing. (Well... perhaps it's a bit grand to say I created this. It is, after all, a pretty derivative copy of the classic "Battleship" turn-based game. Still, I have put my own spin on things.)

This year, as with all other spring time seasons, we have our garden planted out back. So do all our neighbors. And it's always been the custom for any of us to water each others' plants when folk are away. Well, no one is away from home anymore this spring. But, with a bit of artwork and a dash of imagination, I put a spin on an old classic game to celebrate cooperation and kindness... and give us a bit of a taste of watering one another's vegetables, too!

I invite you any your neighbors to play Battledrip if you wish to when you're in backyards together... even if "together" means "at least six feet apart" these days!

I thought you were about to start arcing your water hose over the fence blindly, and i was a little disappointed; however, this was still hilarious.

"We water their vegetables, they water ours."

Is that what the kids call it these days?

The last time I played "Battleship" I was in senior in High School and it required a Keg, a QueBee of Humboldt county's finest and of course a Battleship game set. The rules of the game were simple when a person missed they had to drink and every time scored a hit they had to take a rip. I not sure if anyone actually won a game but we all had a lot of fun get blitzed playing it. StaySafe StayHealthy

Years ago my youngest brother and I changed how to play Battleships. Inspired by the events at Scapa Flow (the Germans scuttled their fleet to prevent it being seized by the British) and at the River Plate (the Germans scuttled their ship to prevent it being captured by the British) we came up with Sink Your Own Battleship. The objective being to sink your own ships before your opponent can. It’s not much fun but the real life events weren’t either.

surprisingly and welcome-ly wholesome.

Waring is uncivilized behavior, so why not change it up! I also like the "Thank you, Neighbor" and such that can teach children the right way to act with people, and which reverses the motivations away from "kill them before they kill you", " to "help your neighbor before they help you". Very civilized.

Now I need to learn Lao so I can play with my neighbours. Such a cool game and a reminder to stay sane and off the devices as much as possible. Contactless connection! Well done mate 👍

Really nice game, it bugs me a little bit that the grid separators are 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 3 and they are only 5 tall. So if I were to make some tweaks I'd maybe make the grid taller by a few cells, and either chop off a letter or if I keep all 26 columns don't have them preshaded and separated, but have a single column where if the opposing team waters it, they have to water it twice for example, say that column is dehydrated and in a drought. They wouldn't get told they only half watered something, so they could go over an entire crop, and a middle square is only half watered.
