Toyota FJ cruiser keyless entry remote programming DIY

This also worked perfectly on my 2012 FJ. I found it helpful to write the steps down so I could take them to the car (and leave them there for next time).

Start with key removed, and only driver’s door open...
• Insert and remove key twice
• Close and open door twice
• Insert key once
• Close and open door twice
• Insert key and leave it in
• Close door
• Cycle key through to “on”, then off once (twice if you want to overwrite previous key matches instead of just adding a new key).
• Remove key
(Car will cycle locks to acknowledge programming mode)

• Press Lock and Unlock buttons together, 1 to 1.5 seconds
• Press lock button on Fob once
• Car should cycle locks once to acknowledge

Repeat previous three steps for adding additional keys at the same time

FYI, found this out the long way but if you disconnected the plug under the steering wheel to turn off the annoying chime then this wont work. You have to plug that connector back on for this to work.

did you ever do the video to program the key? The dealer just charged me $350 to program a new key that did not have a remote...the plan key with the plastic.😢

I realized that mine isn’t working. Then again, then I open my door, the door symbol doesn’t show up in the dash. I’m assuming that’s why. Also, when I put my key in the ignition, it doesn’t make the beeping sound.

Didn't work for me so i found another video same procedure except you have to close and open doors twice both times. So here arr the steps:

1. Driver door open
2. Insert key in ignition and remove twice
3. Close door and open twice
4. Insert key in ignition and remove once
5. Close door and open twice
6. Insert key in ignition and close door
7. Turn key to ignition position
8. Switch off and remove key

If the door locks and unlocks automatically you are in programming mode.

Hold down both lock and unlock keys of the remote you wanna program for 2 seconds then hit the lock button on the remote. If the door lock it means the remote was programmed successfully.
