Atelier Resleriana - A Joke Of A 'Game', And A Waste Of Time

So a new Atelier game actually came out very recently, and it looks amazing. Unfortunately, pull away the pretty face and you find something far more ugly. Atelier Resleriana is a worrying shift in direction for the series, and hopefully won't be the norm going forward.

Ooo boy, this one ruffled a few feathers. Needless to say, I stand by all of the statements I made on this. If Resleriana is going to advertise itself as a main line game, then I'll judge it as one.
How people take my opinion on that is up to them.

The pervading opinion seems to be that I hate this game because it's a gacha title.

It's not the gacha itself that is the issue. Rather, it's how many of the mechanics are watered down or artificially made more monotonous as a method of getting you to engage in the gacha roulette. Even if it is more 'F2P' friendly than other gachas (which I don't agree with), you still need to engage in that grind.

I get that some people are fine with that, I made as much clear in the video. I don't care if people prefer this type of gameplay.
I don't mind if people prefer to play in short spurts each day.

But I don't.

On the gameplay side of things, why should we just have to 'accept' shallow mechanics. Watered down alchemy, boring turn based combat, no exploration...

Why should that just be accepted because it's a gacha?

And on the narrative side, immersion is a massive factor in how I perceive a story. If I have to resort to 15 minute sessions in the later parts of the game because of artificial
barriers, how am I meant to enjoy or relate to what the story has to offer?

As for the gacha itself, one thing that wasn't mentioned in my video is that the prices are obscene, and I wish had touched on that. Koei are infamous for their out of touch DLC practices, and now they're showing it in this game. Give them a yard, and they will take a mile.

Some people have this opinion that the success of Resleriana will be good for the series because they can pour those funds in to a new traditional game.

Alternatively, the success of this game could instead make Koei realise that this is the path the series should be going down for the future as it makes them the most money.

Once again, I stand by all my opinions on this 'game'. If it wants to masquerade as a mainline title, then I'll judge it as one.

And with that in mind, it comes up short in nearly all of the areas I value in the series.

Anyway, I just got back from a night out so I'll check over the comments tomorrow, peace!

I just don't get why this was advertised as a main Atelier game instead of maybe a spinoff

I hope Resna can get her own real game one day.
This hurts just like the mobile Tales games: They introduce cool characters and stories that we'll never get to enjoy in a context of a normal game

My experience on social media the last few days:

Atelier fans: Garbadge cashcrab, p2w game, why is this a mainline game
Gacha players: its a fine game; you don't need to play a ton every day, just a few minutes, but their is not a lot to do once you finish all the available content and its pretty f2p so far.

Your feelings about gacha are valid but 😅 *you are wrong* in regards to the 2 star and 3 stars being important. For early to mid game, they're not. And by the time you reach end game, you'd have enough currency to pull and build another 3 star. But even in end game, you don’t need a team full of 3 stars to clear all the content. Most people (even on JP server) aren't doing that.

You can beat the game just fine with any character you want. If you want to have an easier time, you couldrefer to tier lists or whale on banhers, but it's not mandatory to clear the game. You don't have to fill your team with 3 stars and 2 of the early meta characters for combat are 2 stars - one of them being Resna herself whom you get for free. You get 3 star Rorona for free which is powerful enough to carry you as well.

Regardless of who you decide to play with (it really doesn't matter), just make sure you focus on leveling only 5 characters to carry your account until they reach max level. Invest only in 5 characters and you'll be fine. And if you use Resna on your team and build her, you'll have a great time as most enemies are weak to fire and Resna is a free character that's extremely easy to build compared to the others.

The game is decent for a gacha and better than many. If you already like the atelier games and you know your way around gacha already, you'll enjoy it. If this is your first gacha, you'll probably misunderstand a lot of things about the game (such as the significance of star rarity in this game). I really suggest you look up guides for the game from experienced playsrs such as: ScionStorm, PayneBlade, and atelier angela.

And because of the pity system that will be added in a future update, you don’t have to play the game every single day. You can treat it as a comfy game by logging in when you feel like it or showing up just to experience story updates. Most gachas force you to play every day. But Resleriana is one of the few games set up in a way where you really don't have to. Every limited character will be added to a pity shop for you to exchange pity currency for. You gain pity currency automatically whenever you pull on a gacha banner. The game will start to become far more generous with pulls and even give free daily pulls in a future update according to JP server. And even if you decide that you want to do dailies to grind some more currency, it only takes a few minutes.

The game's not gonna be for everyone and if you have a gambling addiction or mental health problem that suggests you stay away from gacha games, then don't bother playing. Watch a playthrough with all the cutscenes on youtube.

But if you're willing to play the game, don't play every single day. It doesn't require you to do that. You're just gonna bive yourself burnout if you try. Drop in to hangout with Resna and the gang when you feel like it. It's a really pretty game that can make you smile if you know how to navigate the game properly (watch scion storm, payneblade, and atelier angela for info) and if you're responsible in how you balance your time spent in the game versus other activities and responsibilities in your life.

If you're not disciplined enough to manage your time (and/or money if you plan on spending) on this game properly, then don't play it.

Resna has a good story but i think one of the most important part missing is the slice of life interaction between characters
I like the way you put Lyd/Sue's musics in your videos, i love them both

Honestly this was unnecessarily negative. Sure, don't play if you want, don't spend if you want, but this game is far from actually badly made as you say. At its core, if you have a problem with it being a gacha game, you can't really be objective when criticizing it

A shame. Valeria (purple haired horn lady) is 11/10 design. Like wtf she looks so good,

Side note, I miss Atelier Iris. Or more specifically the era where Atelier was more alchemy and story than fanservice

I normally agree with you, but since you don't like gacha games in general your review is very biased. I am surprised how negative you are about it. You could just state it's not your cup of tea, but to say it's a waste of time and to incur us not to play it is a bit much.

As someone who has been playing it as much as possible since release I absolutely love it. The story and characters + graphics is definitely the best thing about it and keeps me engaged. Resna does go through character development and the other protag is amazing. Gameplay is really not as bad as you think. Synthesizing does take some strategy if you want good stats on your items and leveling/building your characters is fun enough.

I mean that's the mindset of a console/PC fanboy "gamers" for clearly lambasted anything on mobile and it's users, it's a proven fact. Mobile users minding their own business when console/PC starts whining like a man-child, if they don't like it why bother?

As for me, an ROG Phone and ROG Ally user I'm glad that they made it on mobile so that I can learn it's lore (after the last slightly disappointing game on my PS4 Pro).

Imagine my disappointment when seeing the "Worldwide Release" announcement that came with "This item is not available in your country".

Apparently I'm living on a different planet.

If we take it simply as a gacha game, I would say it is kinda standard. Bad rates and obvious superiority of SSR characters is normal in lots of gacha. If you do not play gacha, it is hard for me to say if it is just you not being used to it or if it is really that bad even in context of gacha hell.

Another thing I want to say that it actually looks fine, I encountered much worse menu etc. Looks kinda fine... plus the characters seems really well made.

Two biggest problems imo are:
1) no normal exploration - when we have genshin, star rail etc, it should not be impossible to implement at least some instance based exploration with collecting and interactions, not just this side sweeping. Again, there are worse gacha games gameplaywise, but if this is new, released now, that is outdated, yes. They create beautiful characters and not so good gameplay with them (turn based combat seems fine, normal, gacha standard).

2) Presenting gacha game as next main I think this is whole problem with this game. If they wanted to create atelier gacha, they shoud make it just spin-off or "fanservice" only to enjoy characters from all games. If they present new main girl in her own story and title it as next main title, that is really dumb decision to make it gacha, especially without any exploration as I mentioned above.

Again, someone who played this game and has experience with gacha overall, is it so bad (just in gacha context)?

Anyway if I just wanted to play new main atelier game, this is indeed just a joke.

I cant lie im a weird gamer. I enjoy just watching things that look nice, and this game is full of very nice animations with my favorite characters. My only issues with it was that some characters seemingly had their weapons censored and use knives instead of guns, and there was no form of gathering.

Well I unlocked dungeons and that fixed the gathering issue, kinda.

Not to mention my luck has been nuts and i've got so many of my favorite characters spending no more than $30 (plenty for free i just wanted more), half of what a main game should be- which this should not have been advertised as.

I 100% agree with that, this SHOULD HAVE BEEN MARKETED AS A SPIN OFF.

But Im enjoying it more than I expected either way.

As a gacha/turn based player for a long time, I'm enjoying it as a side game.

I have been playing jrpgs for 20 years, atelier series has been one of my favorites. I definitely agree this shouldn't be a mainline atelier title, but as someone who also plays gacha game, I don't think the game itself is a bad game. Gacha games are designed to utilize people's fragmented time in everyday life, that's why they are more popular in east Asia than in the west, because it's a much faster lifestyle there, where people on average are much busier and don't really have the luxury to sit down to play a console game all day. And as a console/pc gamer as gacha gamer, one thing I kinda dislike about console game community is that they will always tell others to play a "real" game. Many gacha games are not about the gameplay, rather it simply gives you something easy and comfortable to do during your busy life, seeing a little growth and a little progress day by day, it's just another form of fun in my opinion. Events, saving for future banners, etc., these gacha game elements are all about adding something in life for me to look forward to, when I open the game I can see my favorite characters do cute things and just kinda gives me some simple joy. But obviously when I have a lot of time I'll play atelier sophie 2 on my steamdeck😄but atelier resleriana also provides me fun and I don't mind it, I just think they shouldn't include it in main series.

Im having a lot of fun, but im a gacha gamer, so im used to this kind of gameplay. The only atelier game ive played is the first Ryza one, and i really enjoyed the charakter designs in that game and thats what also made me download resleriana. Its a very visually appealing game in my opinion. All the different menus have cool charakter animations, its very dynamic compared to other gacha games i play. I love how you can just go into the material farm menu and theres Ryza just chilling there animated and droping voiceliness.

I can see that this game deffinetly isnt something that a person that plays non gacha games would enjoy though. But im having fun. Cant wait what the devs are cooking, hope theyll drop some seasonal alts for the charakters, id love to pull for some of the girls in even cuter festive outfits.

I dont agree with one thing, that you need higher quality of characters to clear things. If you know how to set up your party you can easily play F2P and dont spent money on the game, it will take you maybe more time, but it is possible. Otherwise I must say i like the game, i like narrative, characters.. For me its looks great, but its okay if not for everyone :) Peace and great gaming in 2024 :)

Tastes sure do differ. I absolutely love this game. Art style, characters and a nice relaxing story are all fantastic. Gacha is actually non predatory at all. I wanted to spend some on that game to support devs, but there is no need to.

I would recommend to give it more than 5 hours, but on the other hand I was enjoying it from the very beginning, so I guess you like what you like...

I think the game is fun to play not some competitive game like hoyoverse. Even though star rail give more gift but it pain to gacha new character and keep up meta. Also new area new anime and must gacha. Atelier is better even though many player is blind for exploration but still is one of the best game mobile 😊
