With news that Dan Carter has officially retired from rugby, we go back to his unforgettable 33 point performance against the British and Irish Lions in 2005.

Do you think this is Carter's greatest performance in the black jersey?

Everyone says Lomu is the Goat, but Carter's versatility makes him the perfect rugby player, he can kick accurately and from long distances (2009 against SA), yet has the physicality that resonates with term Rugby Player, not to mention his longevity (alas Lomu was stripped of that very unfairly 😥), he is the Goat in my book and I cant think of anyone now that truly matches him

A masterclass performance from a man who had gave us many incredible moments to share alongside others! There won't be another Boss of the All Black #10 Jersey who dominates countless fields of foreign & home encounters, for quite some time to come.

I wanted to share a moment with you in return, as it reminded me of a time way back when --- Playing Jonah Lomu Rugby back in the day against a longtime friend and losing by 6 points, I tried to replicate your chip and chase on the right hand wing; when you broke into some space against the Lions to score your 1st try in this very match - As a character you may not have been in the game itself, but I did manage to regain possession after the chip further afield, and score in the corner as you did in the video above; much to my mates absolute disgust haha - Even better was the fact that he was playing as the over-powered All Blacks, and I had to settle for Ireland or Scotland as he didn't like losing to me at all ... lol! ... Cheers for the memories Dan and wishing you well for the future!

After watching this match I was shaking my head, speechless, turned to my friend, he was laughing his head off, did we just see a perfect 10?

Such a long time ago & it was good to see Johnny Wilkinson on the field, against Danial Carter who played an outstanding game of Rugby Union. Good to watch again & again.

I think without a doubt the greatest 1st Five to ever play the game. Mehrtens and Spencer, were both great players, but with noticeable shortcomings in certain areas of their games. Carter was the perfect balance of the two. Moreover, Carter was superb when going backwards. Honourable mention to Stephen Larkham, that bloke was pretty darn good.

I watched that match with my son, on tv and after the game said to him that that was the best performance by a 10 i had ever seen. It has aged well. He was the goat

Some random kiwi bloke racked up 33 points against the best British Isles Lions team had to offer! I was at this game (2nd test) in Wellington at the cake tin 2005! Dan Carter was all class that night. ABs 48 - 18 Lions. Just heard DC announced his retirement from professional footy today (feb 2021). Debut for the All Blacks in 2003. A great 19-year career.

Take a Bow son. From a BIL fan.

Edit: Yep v The Lions in that 2nd test. World class. I am glad I paid £500 to see his last great performance in an AB shirt.
