This was some alien stuff to me coming from a Subaru, but in all honesty it's actually easier to remove the spare tire out of a 4runner. Kinda cooler too. AND it's a full-size rim! Hot dog I feel fancy now. _

Cool story. My service van blew a rear tire on a few kilometre long stretch of road. Only way to pull off the road was to partially drive up and onto a curb. Jacked 'er up. Removed the tire. Had to lower the spare (just like yours), and there was a rather large boulder protruding from the ground.

No matter what I did, I couldn't get that bugger of a spare from out under the vehicle. Had to put the blown out tire back on. Yatta yatta. Move. Do it all over again.

They do it to save space. But it can be a pain! At least I was being paid by the hour. ;)

Went to change a tire on my S10 in my driveway a few months ago. I figured I'd just put the spare on it. Nope. The cable had broke somewhere and the tire was long gone. No idea when I lost it.

I put a steel bumper on my 4Runner and opted for the pricey rear wheel mount. Enough of this nonsense.
