Loose purl stitch following a knit stitch

In this video I will show you 2 methods I like to use to tighten up that dreaded loose purl stitch following a knit stitch. Here I am working in 4 x 4 ribbing. (even though I did say knit 3) you can use this technique for 1x1, 2x2 or even when working cables.

The first is my preferred method.
After you complete your last knit stitch and you are ready to purl the next stitch, give the yarn a little tug to increase the tension and reduce the amount of yarn used for that stitch, you will see the bump from your last knit stitch be pulled slightly forward, purl the stitch holding the tension. In the video I did let go of the yarn when demonstrating but you can do this in one motion and with practice you feel when you have the right amount of tension.

The second method is done as follows:
When working the first purl stitch following a knit stitch, wrap the yarn CLOCKWISE around the stitch rather than counter clockwise.
When you turn your work to work the next row that stitch will be a twisted knit stitch and you will have to knit through the back loop to untwist it.
A little more work but also a great result.

Thank you for the visual. I'm picking up a project where I started doing the ribbing your old way, and for continuity I figured I better keep doing it. Thank you for the video 😊

Do you have a video for the opposite? A loose knit following a purl?
