A tricky repair on a Renogy 40 Amp charge controller. Not a easy repair but with some work it will live to charge another day.

good thing you took a little more time to figure out a solution. lol. That looks really clean. I never use my load terminals either.

Good job in an awkward situation. Always good to think outside of the box. Excellent camera work! Cheers!

Hey nice video, you really could have used some rosin flux with a syringe applicator makes the heat transfer faster and prevents quite a bit of oxidation for cleaner connections. Excellent field repair! Been in the electronics biz for 39 years and I am amazed at the ingenuity of folks such as yourself. Peace.

That pencil solder torch is bad ass. Nice repair. BTW I learned not to over tighten the lugs.

Great job. Too many people won’t even attempt to fix things now days. I mean you can’t really break something that already broken. Why not give it a shot.

Great job Wayne! Might I suggest when you solder, use a mildly activated rosin flux paste on the joint before applying solder. The heat from the iron tip will melt solder a lot easier, and will make a better solder joint.

Good video Wayne, most people would have bought another controller.

THAT'S thinking it through :) Could you have heated the lug with your torch to make it drop through the holes in the board while applying flux core to the terminals? And you can still use the auxiliary connection, just remove the remaining terminal for use later, solder in a basic connector.

I have one of those renology charge controllers. Contemplating tossing it in the trash. It's a PG30A which isn't really 30A - it's 20A but wait it gets worse - it throws a fit if I give it more than a 3A load.

Just wondering
Have you ever worked full time at another Rv shop or always worked for yourself? I wished you lived in my area because our local DEALER is not geared like you and reasonable thinking
