Passengers ride new Northumberland line for first time in 60 years

After more than 60 years, a railway line has reopened and welcomed back passengers to its services.

The Northumberland line will connect towns from Ashington to Newcastle.

It cost just under £300m, and the journey to reopening was filled with delays and diversions, with just two of seven stations opening on time.

Sky correspondent Shingi Mararike spoke to some of the people who rode the first train on the new line.

That woman is right, we are forgotten in every aspect. It’s shame this took 14 years, it’s a shame that something so obvious needed so much work, it’s a shame it wasn’t electrified and made part of the metro. The line will be vey much welcomed, Northern now needs to deliver on rolling stock promises and capacity.

I can’t believe the lady who is complaining about levelling up and being treated badly, when her town has literally just had a £300m new train service given to them, which she says herself is great and will allow her and her husband to travel. That is what levelling up is!
