This 3d animation video quickly goes over the type of foundations and footings a civil engineer might encounter during his design life. It goes over:
Simple isolated footing - commonly used for shallow foundations in order to carry and spread concentrated loads,
Stepped footing - using stepped footing is to keep the metal columns away from direct contact with soil to save them from the corrosive effect
Combined footing - two or more columns when they are close to each other and their foundations overlap
Beam strapped footing - a type of combined footing, consisting of two or more column footings connected by a concrete beam
Strip foundation - used to provide a continuous, level (or sometimes stepped) strip of support for linear structures such as walls or closely-spaced rows of columns
Raft foundation - large foundation slab to form a massive structure and the foundation piers are connected through beams
Stepped foundation - a footing in which the desired width is secured by a series of steps
Pile foundation - in situations where the top layer of soil is weak and unable to hold the weight of the building
