KODAK PANATOMIC-X

I received this rare roll of Kodak Panatomic-X with a camera I bought a number of years ago and forgot about it while waiting for the right moment to try it out.

Having rediscovered it recently I figured the best use for it would be a day trip out to some places that I thought the film might excel in. Enjoy!

Big thanks to David for helping me make this, check him out @shootfilm_cpt

This was my favorite B&W film back in the day. I literally cried when it was discontinued 😢

man, the amount of detail still achievable with film so old is so rad. I have a few rolls of panatomic x and this makes me really excited to try it! I might have too send you some!

this film works beautifully with the landscape, you're so spoilt for choice in SA, i struggle so much in London and often don't pick up my camera until i'm overseas. On a random note, i watched the movie Civil war last week and as a photographer it kinda blew my mind seeing the perspective of a documentary photographer, the trailer is actually pretty diff from the movie itself. anyway i thought i'd mention incase you're interested, i left the cinema feeling totally stunned and hyped at the same time lol

A great watch with some excellent pictures, the processed pictures look incredibly fresh for a long expired film.

Film stood up so well, lovely shots man. That first location is wild. Gym has been paying off looking huge. #sheepsquad

How cool is this?! There’s a lot I don’t know, and I can’t say I ever remember this film. I was young when it was made, but still…. Excellent share Will 😊Thanks for bringing this story to life. It was definitely enjoyable to watch. Cheers 🍻. Also, hot dog! You made me tired watching you walk up those stairs.

Cool shots, i remember my photography professor rambling about this film stock.

Also thanks for the disclosure about the caravans. Makes your casual exploration of the wreckage way less worrisome.

Nice video and images, that looks like a cool area to photograph! Pan-X was a great film, I discovered it right at the end of its life. Another nice one was Kodak Tech Pan, I still have a dozen rolls of 120 that I should run through my RB one of these days.

Panatomic X was my favorite film for portraits and architechture in olden times. I was sad to see it go.
However, Ilford Pan F is very similar, and still available.
Give it a try.

Oh WOW. Some truly epic pictures made with very polished videography to accompany your artworks ❤. That caravan seems to have needed wings! 😢. Always a good day when a Sheepskin video alert pops up ❤

In high school photo class, 1989-90 year, teacher asked me to clean out the back room and fridge, throw it all out… I was granted a 1986 expired 100’ roll of panatomic X and Kodak Extachrome 100, 1986 as well. We were already using tmax 100 and 400, tri-X and plus-x was basically done. I remember having the upper hand with my craft when I had all that pan-x to mess with. I still have 2 rolls expired in 90 sitting in my freezer. At some point, I hoarded as much as I could find. Combined with HC110, it was made for pan-x.

Nice. B/W is the biggest reason I started shooting my film cameras again. I really understand about the filters. I don’t think B/W should be used without at least a yellow filter. The 3 stop loss with the red filter can be annoying but I’ve found the 2 stop loss Orange filter to be a good alternative. Be careful out there without a hat you could get a bad burn on that dome of yours

South Africa really is a gorgeous nation, certainly on my bucket list. I'm not sure what your future plans are but if you go to Namibia or Mozambique for a photo project, the outcome would be legendary! Great video as always, and hope you're doing well. Also, bridge shots are OP!
