I own the Tascam DR-10X and let me tell you that thing is a lifesaver. The battery life is incredible; I've left it running all day and it's sometimes been the only way I could get a good source of audio due to the circumstances of the day. Seriously high quality and I can always boost the bass or clean up the vocals in post if it feels a bit lacking.

Amazing video, thank you! Would you say that on camera mic is must have? Is it actual backup or main source of audio, what is it really used for? if we have Bride and Groom wired up and from the dance floor we can't really use sound (copywrites). It's more for like guests responses etc? Would it better to get "wide" on camera mic or directional? Thank you!

Just got the zoom F3… it’s amazing and small. It’s my first 32 bit float recorder and I love the convenience of plugging in to a DJ board or a speaker and just walking away. I also use the Sony TX 650 as a piggyback onto the microphone itself. Tascam DR10 L usually on the male toast giver. Rode wireless mics rigged with magnets on female toasters. Yeah I’m obsessed

I’ve shot weddings but still learning video. I’ve done 2 so far and audio was an area I wish I could’ve done better. Definitely going to research more but this was incredibly informative. Do you have a video about attaching the mics to the couples?

Great video! I have a quick question. Coming from a video production background, I typically use the Sennheiser G4 wireless system with my camera. However, I've noticed that many wedding videographers use the DR-10L, which records audio internally. My first question is, do the bride and groom typically allow recording throughout the entire day? I imagine there are a lot of private conversations and moments throughout the day.

My second question is related to syncing audio and video clips recorded at different times. Isn't it challenging to find the right audio clips and sync them in post-production?

Thank you in advance for your insights!

Careful with the F2 BT im having send mine back as it freezes when it comes to stopping the audio and doesn't save it. Its quite a common problem with some of the earlier models i'm told. Just a heads up

How did I not know about the Tascam Dr-10x!? The thing I hate about my H4N is that the auto level feature doesn't work, I love my Tascam DR10Ls because they are simple and I can always rely on them. Definitely gonna pick up a DR-10x so I can have that same peace of mind with DJ boards and toasts

With the bride's, do you have a mic sock to fit it on their leg so it doesn't show. When do you get the bride to put on?

my tascam died during ceremony. freaked out and thought it didn't save. it did and i got my ceremony audio fine.

The DR10 original is now going for about $100 which is great. It's not perfect and the sound can be a little tinny but it's proven itself as decently reliable. Nice feature set, great battery life and tiny and lightweight. The DR10L Pro is clearly the new successor, but the old DR10 still holds up -

When and where did you get the Instamic Pro Plus? I’ve been looking for them for several months. Thanks. Great video as usual!!!

Maybe a stupid question, but how do you hide the Tascam on the bride? Thinking thatd be difficult without belts or pockets.

I cannot fathom a bride feeling cool with being miced up for 9 hours. How exactly are you convincing them on this?

Great video, I use the Zoom H4 as you do and I also use the Tascam white for the bride and love it. I found the tascam after I purchased the Rode Go 2 which I see you didn’t recommend but they have been great for me capturing audio from the dad, groom, pastor and I also attach them to the microphone for speeches. Quick question do you use a audio actuator with the H4? Thanks

Thanks!

Thanks for this. I've been using the RØDE Wireless Go II system, which is great because they record internally in addition to transmitting (until you do a firmware upgrade and forget to check that auto-record is turned on). If they were 32-bit floating, they would be perfect for me.
I've seen the *Instamic* once when working with another videographer and was mildly interested, but now that I'm seeing you describe it, I'm very interested. I went to their website and I'm about to pre-order two of their new 32-bit float versions. I just wish they also came in white (and had longer battery life).
