China does not need economic reform too increase consumption's share of GDP. Also, while the ascend to become the world's largest economy is in constant focus, most miss the fact that the top-position might quickly be regained by the US. The answer to why this is so, lies in the demographics.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

China did surpass the US in GDP-purchasing parity terms in 2014. The other half of China is transitioning-developing from rural into urban communities and will maintain growth rate for another couple of decades; facilitated by the transportation infrastructures.

11:40 The US depends on immigration for population growth. China has relaxed the one child policy and has proven to be a very popular destination for top talent among EU and US professionals.

I‘m very happy that the presenter decided to acknowledge he is European instead of declaring a member state, but why use a pre 2004-enlargement map for the EU in 2012?

Aside from that, how would growth of the EU square against this same backdrop in a pre and post Brexit EU?

When you have 50% unemployment rate in the youth population, there is going to be no "demographic divident".

Population counts. Education counts more.

US has a high population growth due to immigration. As China becomes rich, China will also have many immigrants into China. The Chinese are quite open to foreigners, which is completely different to the Japanese. Hence, China's population growth will also be high due to immigration. Using today's population growth to estimate China's future population size is incorrect. Population growth will pick up as China becomes rich.

According to him, US will be #1 in terms of gdp by mid century.
Several other sources predict that China will be #1, India #2, an US #3.
