Honda BF 4stroke Outboard CARB CLEANING, DISASSEMBLY & INSPECTON

This is Part Two of removing and cleaning your Honda BF series outboard engine carburetors. If you missed Part One the link is down below.
In this video, I disassemble the Honda BF50 Outboard carbs, check all of the gaskets and o-rings, clean out all of the jets and fuel passages, and reassemble.

While owning this engine I performed this process at least four times possibly more due to me using regular pump gas. It only took me a few times to realize that using pump gas in these motors was a huge mistake. The slow jet is super small and can get clogged VERY easily.

Blog post & More.

I get a small kickback from any purchase.

Great Video. Very clear.
A few more suggestions: 1) There is an orifice INSIDE the main jet tube near the bottom. It is the smallest one in the carb and the easiest to get clogged. Even when it is clean, you cannot see thru it! Suggest cleaning with a small guitar string (E string), shoved thru the orifice and all the way thru the tube and out the other end, then worked around for good measure. 2) you don't need carb cleaner - any light hydrocarbon in a spray can with decent pressure and a "straw" will do. WD-40 works great, as it is low-viscosity and the straw is permanently attached. Carb cleaner is only necessary if you are dissolving gunk (varnish, etc.), and then you need to let it soak 3) After cleaning the main jet inner orifice with the guitar string, finish with the WD-40. Put the straw in the bottom end of the jet, cover all other openings with your finger(s), and spray till you can see the WD coming out the side orifices in the main jet. You will often see the spray pattern start uneven, then clear up. You get to actually see the main jet in action! 4) In the top carb on a BF50, there is an 1/8" hole with channels that go to the bowl drain and a pick-up tube. That hole is an excellent place for dirt to hide, and then float back up when you hit the first wave. Same with the inside of the main jet screw cap. Make sure to clean these thoroughly.

Probably one of the best, most thorough, and detailed videos I’ve ever seen... not just on the BF50, but on all of YouTube.

I account for like half of the views on this video. I have a BF outboard that has a hard time starting, and rough ideling. Seems like a carb cleaning would be a good thing to try. Thank you for a very informative video, good footage and nice narrating. :)

Good information! During a deep cleaning, the slow jet emulsion tubes on my carburetors were also found to be cracked at the bottom. This is unfortunately an expensive part but necessary and so replaced.. Personally, I use a 1/4 inch ratchet wrench with a good fitting flathead bit for the jets. No hassle with slipping resulting in damaged jets.

I have a BF25D with a similar setup. At the bottom of the plastic airbox attached to the carbs there are 2 nipples. Nothing is connected to them right now. Any idea what goes to them? I am wondering if they are the vacuum lines for the carbs. Thanks!

Hello, at 7:49 the part you call the slow jet that has the o ring on one end is that hollow from end to end .I cleaned my carb and i could see the cross holes in each end however i could not look through the brass piece from end to end .The carb was dirty and gimmed up and motor would not run .Now it runs but needs the carb on. I suspect it that piece in your hand they is blocked IF it is hollow

You make it look simple. I’m thinking of giving this a try. My engine is running great at faster speeds
But I’m getting stalling at low idle. Is there a cleaner that can be used that might clean up the jets or carbon deposits?
