The SI unit for potential energy is the joule. Named after James Prescott Joule.

I''m looking for an error in my calculations or my understanding of potential energy. Given: A Mg 3 meters high has a potential energy of 29, 400 J. 1000 kg · 9.8 · 3 = 29, 400 J. 1 J = 1 Ws. J / 3, 600, 000 = kWh. So, 29, 400 / 3, 600, 000 = 0.00817 kWh. An AA 1.2 volt battery with a rating of 2800 mAh has 3.36 Wh of energy. 1.2 V · 2.8 Ah = 3.36 Wh. 3.36 Wh = 0.00336 kWh. 0.00336 · 3 = 0.01008. Therefore 3 AA batteries contain enough energy, assuming 100% efficient power transfer, to raise a metric tonne 3 meters. I can not get my head around this idea. What am I unaware of that makes this scenario seem ridiculous to me?
