This bharatanatyam piece is set to a fusion of Lalgudi Jayaraman’s Desh thillana and Amir Khusrau’s Sufi poem Main to Piya se naina, which was later composed into a song by Ram Sampath. Here, the dancers contrast romantic (sringara) love, which is described in the poem, with the devotional (bhakti) love described in the thillana. The two adult dancers take turns depicting the main character (nayika) of the poem, and use facial expressions (abhinaya), to convey to the audience how the nayika is feeling after seeing her beloved. The two teenage dancers portray their devotional love for Muruga.

Music created for IndianRaga by Maalavika Sundar and Vinod Krishnan.
